Envoy Mortgage The Gift of Home Program

Envoy Mortgage announced in January that they will gift 50 households across the US in mortgage assistant as part of it's Gift of Home program to show gratitude to their customers who are essential workers.

Kimberly from Envoy reached out to me on Friday to see if I could whip up a quick delivery the winner that they drew for their Rochester location, Mark. It was a slightly tall order for me: two 3ft personalized navy balloons filled with helium with tassel tails and a weight at the bottom, and a 6ft balloon garland with white, navy, and gold.

Their team was going to be bringing these balloons in to surprise Mike with giant check. They were going to be self-installing the balloon garland so I was going to just be building the balloon decor and dropping everything off to them.

Easy for me, right?

She sent me these inspiration photos:

DIY Balloon Garland that is totally a fake picture.png

Here is the DIY Garland that they wanted me to re-create. You can usually find these on Amazon or Etsy for $12-$20.

The issue with these kits is that a. it’s totally a photoshopped picture, but b. that is NOT a 6ft garland. That’s more like a 10ft garland. These photos usually represent what 2-3 of these kits would look like together. But I wasn’t really worried about that at this point because they were going to be handling it all and I assumed it would be hanging from something.

Here are the helium balloons they wanted… the only issue is… we don’t offer helium (yet) AND using helium with vinyl on latex in winter is really risky.

In the extreme temperature changes of outside in the cold the helium will contract, thus the latex will shrink, which can cause the vinyl on the balloons to wrinkle. So even that short amount of time in the extreme cold could be risky.

So the “tall” part of the order was the helium in the balloons and the custom logo on the 3ft balloons.

We don’t use helium just yet - pretty much everything that we’ve been asked to do so far with decor has been achieved using only air. Usually when a corporate client wants their company’s logo on a balloon, they tend to have a stock of 3ft balloons already created for them and they just give them to balloon decorators whenever they need them to be used for events. This is because huge balloon manufacturers like Pioneer (the makers of Qualatex balloons which is the brand that we tend to use the most) make custom 3ft balloons for corporations all the time.

However, due 2 big factors - that couldn’t happen… yikes

  1. Pioneer and other large balloon manufacturers aren’t making custom 3ft balloons right now because they are having so much trouble keeping up with the high demand for just MAKING the normal latex balloons at this time. Balloon decorating has not only become a HUGE industry in the past decade but since pandemic has started the demand for balloons has been SO insanely high that the balloon manufacturers has had such a hard time keeping up! There are certain COLORS we decorators don’t even have access to right now. Hello, pearl peach?? I haven’t had that color in my stock since summer 2020 and man I miss it. lol.

  2. We don’t do helium. No, no, NO do not tell me to go and pick-up a helium tank from Party City. Y’all - those tanks are not only terrible for the environment (they can’t be recycled) but those tanks are filled with about 80% air (yes - it’s a big lie on the tank that says “HELIUM”) and those balloons will just fall to the ground within about 4-6 hours… unless I use hi-float. Which I DO keep in my stock, but even then that’s only going to add a little bit more float time to these. When I DO invest in a helium tank it’s going to likely be in a year or so. I just haven’t had a need for it yet - everything we can do we can achieve with air and it LOOKS like helium.

Enter: Nikki and my amazing Crafty Bot skills.

Did you know that we can add logos to 3ft balloons? We can also add personalization and custom messages to your balloons… honestly we can do it on the 12” balloons too - doesn’t have to be the 3ft balloons.

SO I offered to Kimberly and her team my skills and said “I can make your 3ft balloons with your logo on it - no problem! However instead of them being helium filled with a weight at the bottom, they’re going to be up on a balloon pole and have ribbons instead of tassels. It’s going to look great!” Also - with the balloons being up on a pole, it’s going to keep the 3ft balloon on top from turning around. With a helium 3ft balloon floating - it’s going to want to spin around - so when they are taking their photos and their pictures, sometimes you won’t see the logo.

They loved my way!
